If you are training in any sort of job which involves working with the public then it is important that you have an aptitude for working with people and it is equally important that you receive training which equips you to deal better with the general public, no matter what type of job you are in.

Jobs involving working with people can vary very widely but it can often require a very sensitive approach and you could be in a role where you have to talk to elderly people about equity release to unemployed people about their benefits or to sick and ill people.

In the more sensitive roles where you are dealing with potentially vulnerable people, you need to be caring and understanding while still performing your job properly, so it is quite a fine balance between the two, especially if you sometimes have to give bad news to people.

Whilst you might sympathise with them in your heart, your job means that you have a clear remit and you have to follow this remit whatever your personal feelings are. Many firms will provide guidelines and training for these sorts of roles as it is so important that these situations are handled correctly.

It takes a certain type of person to handle these jobs and you must be caring but level headed and practical.
